Four Wheel Drive (4WD) Driver Training

Whether you’re a thrill seeker looking to escape across rugged terrains or a driver who must operate out of remote and difficult areas, DECA’s four wheel drive courses will teach drivers how to safely operate and manoeuvre their vehicle through risky environments.

There are three courses available to drivers who wish to learn more about safely operating a 4WD- low risk, high risk and high risk + recovery. All courses will equip drivers with skills such as:

  • Techniques for navigating hazardous situations
  • Vehicle inspection and maintenance
  • Defensive driving skills

However, depending on the level of risk desired, the kinds of situations encountered will differ. For example, a low risk manoeuvre may see drivers traversing paddocks and fields, noting the changes in the centre of gravity of the vehicle and the different braking skills required off road. On the other end of the scale, a high risk course may involve drivers navigating steep, muddy hills, as well as learning how to recover bogged or immobilised vehicles.

While this course can be run out of DECA’s training facilities, location of training can also be tailored to suit a client and their equipment. Clients also have the option of using either DECA’s vehicles or supplying their own, familiar 4WD’s.
