4WD Driver Training

For companies who need to operate out of rugged, dangerous conditions, DECA’s four wheel drive training programs teach drivers how to navigate hazardous terrains with confidence. Using the latest in theoretical and practical training techniques, DECA’s nationally accredited team of assessors and trainers equip drivers with the skills needed to traverse these conditions, including:

  • Techniques for navigating hazardous situations
  • Vehicle inspection and maintenance
  • Defensive driving skills

However, depending on the level of risk desired, the kinds of situations encountered will differ. For example, a low risk manoeuvre may see drivers traversing paddocks and fields, noting the changes in the centre of gravity of the vehicle and the different braking skills required off road. On the other hand, a high risk course may involve drivers navigating steep, muddy hills, as well as learning how to recover bogged or immobilised vehicles.

Participants in one of DECA’s four wheel drive courses will receive a Certificate of Attendance upon completion of the course. We are also able to provide drivers with the training and assessment required to obtain a Statement of Attainment. These statements are nationally recognised units of competency from the Forest and Forest Products training package and can be a valuable qualification for all drivers.

While this course can be run out of DECA’s training facilities, location of training can also be tailored to suit a client and their equipment. Clients also have the option of using either DECA’s vehicles or supplying their own, familiar 4WD’s.
